Probably the most important Barbate festival is the Feria y Fiestas del Carmen, since Saint Carmen is the Patron Saint of fishermen. Saint Carmen is also the patron saint of Barbate. The celebration is held every July 16 of the year.
Other festivities in Barbate include the Carnaval and Semana Santa in February, March and April. The Verbena y Romería de la Virgen de Fátima is in May and the Verbena de San Juan in June. In August, the Gran Sardinada festival (The Great Sardine festival) is celebrated at the town port. Come September, there’s the Verbena de San Ambrosio and the Verbena de las barriadas Blas Infante y Jarillo, while the Fiesta de Tosantos is in October.
