Cathedrals are popular tourist destination in any travel. I could only come up of one particular reason for the many whys. For me, churches are prominent architecture in every city or country. Churches actually speaks volumes about it community. But let us see if we could fathom the history in the making in Cathedral of Cadiz.
The Cathedral of Cadiz looks like a Muslim mosque because of its golden dome. The golden dome feature made me wonder if Cadiz was once captured by the Muslim invaders so many centuries back. It was said that the golden dome was before made of pure gold. This also made me wonder where the pure gold went to? For at present the golden dome is nothing near to the Aurum composition.
Cathedral in Cadiz is simply made compared to the other cathedrals in Europe. Yet, there is something intangibly mysterious and beautiful about it that made it as one of my most favorites. The crypt is the only one that impressed me; architecture wise with a vault in the center and side rooms for the important dead people and bishops of Cadiz.
Manuel de Falla is one example of the famous and important people born in Cadiz and was buried in the Cathedral. He was a distinguished artist that received worldwide recognition and awards for his craft- music.
It took them 166 years to finish the Cadiz Cathedral. And of course expect the merge of several architectural style dice of every century. A hundred years is long enough for people to change tastes and that includes the bishops and architects that oversee the finishing of the Cathedral. The Cathedral became the melting pot of several architectural styles from Rococo, Neo-Classical ad Baroque. Yet, it magnificence is never lessen by the mixture of style instead it augmented it beauty and attractiveness.
